After being released from Tihar jail on Wednesday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticized the BJP, alleging that they aimed to coerce Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation to disrupt the provision of free water, electricity, and Mohalla clinics in the capital.
Mr. Singh, who obtained bail in the alleged excise policy scam from the Supreme Court on Tuesday, questioned whether the Prime Minister would cooperate with an investigation if approached by police from opposition-ruled states like Bengal, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.
He emphasized that AAP leaders Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain were incarcerated due to their efforts to provide quality education, healthcare facilities, free bus rides, and ₹1,000 for Delhi women.
Mr. Singh highlighted the familial unity within the Aam Aadmi Party. Upon his release, the Rajya Sabha MP visited Delhi Chief Minister’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and observed tears in her eyes.
Expressing intentions to meet the families of Sisodia and Jain, Mr. Singh urged the public to beware of “dictators” while contrasting them with Mr. Kejriwal, who promises to provide education and healthcare, bringing happiness to people’s lives.
Addressing a spirited crowd of AAP supporters and volunteers at the AAP office, Mr. Singh underscored the party’s resilience against the BJP’s “dictatorship.” He expressed gratitude to AAP volunteers and leaders for resisting the BJP’s authoritarianism.
Accusing the BJP of attempting to detain other AAP leaders, including Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Raghav Chadha, and Durgesh Pathak, Mr. Singh stood in solidarity with Chief Minister Kejriwal, admonishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for favoring corruption.
He reiterated that Mr. Kejriwal would not resign and would continue serving Delhi’s two crore residents. Mr. Singh emphasized that the BJP’s demand for Kejriwal’s resignation stemmed from their opposition to free electricity, water, bus rides for women, and Mohalla Clinics.
He pledged that the AAP would escalate its efforts, and the public would respond to Kejriwal’s “imprisonment” with their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Currently, Mr. Kejriwal remains in judicial custody until April 15 following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to his government’s now-defunct excise policy.
