The BJP on Tuesday accused the I.N.D.I.A bloc of misleading people and promoting its divisive agenda by looking for Hindu-Muslim angle in ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’ slogans.
BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Tuesday, “The slogans were coined by Indians. They were all icons of India’s unity but for political motives they have presented them in a way that promotes divisiveness and something that was done 100 years ago is again being tried now.”
On Monday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that ‘Bharat mata ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’ were first coined by two Muslims, challenging the BJP to renounce the slogans. Azimullah Khan, who was the Prime Minister to the Maratha Peshwa Nana Saheb in the 19th century, coined the ‘Bharat mata ki Jai’ slogan. I don’t know if Sangh Parivar will decide not to chant the slogan since it was framed by a Muslim? Vijayan had said.
“Symbols of Indian unity, have now been twisted by the opposition into a tool of communalism,” said Trivedi, adding that Kerala CM did not see that these slogans had been raised by an Indian, but instead, he had seen the divisiveness of Hindu-Muslim even in this.
Urging the rival alliance to stay away from painting icons of unity with a communal brush, Trivedi said Vijayan overlooked that the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’ were raised by an Indian, but instead he perceived the Hindu-Muslim divisiveness.
The BJP leader asked what was the source of this new divisive mentality. “The communists and I.N.D.I.A bloc parties need to explain why they are trying to dig up this issue,” he said.
He also slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not working for the welfare of the people of the state.
“Such comments reflect a sense of insecurity,” he said.
Trivedi said the Congress party contradicts Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent teachings, as seen in a Karnataka Minister’s statement suggesting that the supporters of Narendra Modi should be slapped.
“Demeaning remarks towards PM Modi might be politically dictated, which has now extended to fostering division among the people of the country,” he said.
Trivedi said with progress in the Lok Sabha election process, the disappointment, despair, and confusion of among leaders of the INDI alliance are becoming apparent.
He highlighted that the I.N.D.I.A alliance leaders are staring at defeat in parliamentary election and his is forcing them to make poisonous remarks from the ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’.
The BJP leader said, previously, various demeaning statements had been made by the Opposition due to feelings of inferiority complex, envy, and frustration towards the PM. “Now, it appears that there is a possibility of a political dictate being given to continue making dastardly comments towards Modi but also create a divisive mindset among the people of the country,” he said.
