Soon after assembly polls in Mizoram came to an end on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) general secretary Anil Antony spoke exclusively with NewsX about the saffron party’s chances in the state. The results in Mizoram assume significance as the BJP has tasted huge success in the northeastern states in past years. Excerpts:
Q: What are the chances of the BJP in Mizoram in the just concluded assembly polls?
A: There remains no doubt that the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) is going to form the government in the state after the results are out on December 3. In the past, people of the state have understood and realised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of the country and the state. In a way, PM Modi has succeeded in his Northeast mission for development. Ever since PM Modi introduced Act East Policy in 2014, it has become a grand success with crores of rupees pumped into developmental activities. These have indeed brought public’s attention to PM Modi and Centre.
Q: But your Opposition parties talk of your party’s dismal failure in the state. What have you to say on this?
A: If criticism comes from Opposition parties, it is not a new phenomenon. People are the real masters and they will decide our fate. Ever since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of the country, he shifted his attention to Mizoram and thus, a new story for Mizoram unfolded for all of us.
