Keeping in view the forthcoming assembly polls to be slated for the next year in Haryana, all parties, namely the ruling BJP and alliance partner JJP, the main opposition party Congress, the INLD, and the Aam Aadmi Party, are doing their best to woo the voters in a bid to ensure their victory. The saffron BJP continues to ramp up efforts to come to power for the third time. In order to prove their dominance over each other, all political factions have been relentlessly targeting each other. The results of assembly polls, which are yet to be held in neighbouring state Rajasthan, are most likely to affect state politics to some extent, as the JJP stalwart has decided to contest the polls in Rajasthan.
Experts believe that the upcoming results of the Rajasthan election may have far-reaching implications. Rajasthan and Haryana, being neighbouring states, resemble each other in terms of cultural and political aspects to some extent. It is evident from the past that the stalwarts of all political factions played a huge role in the polls. Whenever elections are held in Rajasthan, bigwigs from all the parties in Haryana go to the election campaign as star campaigners. JJP, which is an ally in power, has won the student union elections there. Apart from this, the party is now also talking about contesting the assembly elections there. In such a situation, it is the effort of all the parties that whoever wins in Rajasthan should get its benefit in Haryana as well. Reacting to Chief Minister Manohar Lal’s recent statement that the BJP is the main ruling party in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala stated that if the BJP denies forging an alliance with the JJP in forthcoming assembly polls, the JJP will contest polls on at least 28 seats. Political experts are of the opinion that the Chief Minister’s statement has hidden political meaning, which annoyed its ally JJP to some extent.
In continuation of this, the issue of forging an alliance among the different parties continues to surface. At present, there is an alliance between the BJP and Jannayak Janta Party in the state, and both are running the government together. It is being repeatedly said on behalf of the BJP that nothing is certain about the alliance in the upcoming elections. The BJP bigwigs are of the opinion that the party would like to go alone in the elections, as contesting the elections in an alliance with the JJP would indicate the weakened position of the party in the state. BJP veteran Chuadhary Birender Singh is of the opinion that contesting elections together with JJP will deliver the message of the BJP’s weakness among the voters.
