Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana has pinpointed the genesis of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir to the rigged elections of 1987, which occurred during the tenure of the Congress government led by Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi.

Rana emphasized that the failure to address concerns raised by the then Governor Jagmohan exacerbated the situation, ultimately leading to the eruption of terrorism. He criticized the Congress for its silence, suggesting it emboldened terrorists and separatists to perpetrate violence and undermine democratic values.

Crediting the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for steering the region away from political instability, Rana highlighted the transformative impact of the BJP-led government’s efforts since August 6, 2019. He noted significant progress in redressing grievances, fostering peace, and promoting development.

Addressing members of the Gujjar community in Tehsil Nagrota and Dansal, Rana asserted that these elections fostered widespread disillusionment, paving the way for the proliferation of terrorism. He underscored the newfound sense of empowerment among the people of Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to the government’s focus on infrastructure development and the implementation of welfare schemes amidst the restoration of peace in the region. Mr. Devender Singh Rana concluded by affirming the BJP’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people and fostering a climate of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
