Both the BJP and the Congress have fielded candidates on all seats for the Rajasthan State Assembly elections. However, the significant point is that both parties, which talk about women’s participation, have allocated very few seats to women in the elections. It was believed that after the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, the BJP would give more than 50% of its tickets to women. However, the BJP has fielded only 20 women candidates in this election, while the Congress has given tickets to 7 more women than the BJP. The Congress has fielded 27 women candidates, indicating that the BJP has shown trust in only 10% of women, while the Congress has shown trust in 13.5% of women.
It is noteworthy that the Women’s Reservation Bill proposes to reserve 33% of seats for women in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. However, the central government had clarified that this law would be implemented after the year 2027. Nevertheless, it was believed that the BJP would give more priority to women in politics this time to send a message. However, the expectations were shattered as only 20 women candidates made it to the list of 200 candidates.
Dr. Raksha Bhandari, the State President of the BJP Women’s Wing, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a lot of work for the dignity, respect, and empowerment of women. Therefore, today, the women of the country have come so far. Regarding giving tickets to women in the elections, the BJP has made efforts to promote women to a great extent. Although several factors must be considered when giving tickets, when the Women’s Reservation Bill is implemented, we will give 33% of the seats to women. On the other hand, when asked about the issue of giving tickets to women, Swarnim Chaturvedi, the Secretary of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, said that we had advocated for reservation for women. However, the BJP did not let it happen. While we have made more women candidates than all other parties in the state. We have tried to give more seats to women in municipal corporations, allowing them to work closely with the mainstream.
