The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has turned its focus towards the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC) elections. In order to do so, the SAD is going to start a big campaign to reach out to voters and create a support base for themselves.
SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal has prepared a roadmap for this by calling an important meeting with the Haryana unit of the party. In this meeting, Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is “conspiring” to keep the Haryana Committee away from Akal Takht Sahib. Badal met with district presidents of the Akali Dal as well as prominent members including Haryana unit presidents Sharanjit Singh Sohta, Baldev Singh and Amarjeet Kaur. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said the real face of the government committee was “exposed” since the committee members had “behaved disrespectfully” and even taken shots at each other. “People have noticed both the Chairman and General Secretary of the Government Committee resigning from their posts when allegations of misuse of Gurdwara funds and unethical activities are levelled against them,” he said. The SAD president further said that all this has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community of Haryana, who are waiting for an opportunity to replace the mahants and take over the management of the gurdwara. The Akali Dal President claimed that both the BJP government and the Congress tried to take away the Haryana Gurdwara Committee from Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
