The main contest in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections is between the BJP and Congress on the seats of Jaipur district. All parties are putting efforts into mobilising their numerical strength in the election arena. On the seats of Sanganer, Bagru, Chaksu, and Amer, there is tough competition between the BJP and Congress. There is no clear indication of a one-sided victory for any party, but in Sanganer, Pushpendra of the Congress will face a challenge from BJP candidate Bhajan Lal. In Bagru, the atmosphere favours the BJP to win against Congress MLA Ganga Devi. In Chaksu and Amer, there is strong competition between both parties.
Sanganer Assembly Seat: This seat is considered a stronghold of the BJP. The margin of victory on the Sanganer seat is higher than on all the other assembly seats in Jaipur, making it quite significant. Congress has fielded Pushpendra Bharadwaj from Sanganer, while the BJP has given a ticket to Bhajan Lal Sharma, a new face. In the last election, Congress had given a ticket to Pushpendra Bharadwaj, who lost. BJP’s Ashok Lahoti secured the victory. Despite Bharadwaj’s work for the public under the Congress government banner, tough competition is expected here.
Bagru Assembly Seat: While talking about the political history of this seat, it was created after the delimitation in 2008. In the three elections held so far, Congress won twice, and BJP won once. Previously, this area came under the Sanganer and Malviya Assembly seats. Bagru Assembly Seat, reserved for the Scheduled Caste, is under Congress control. BJP has given a ticket to Kailash Chand Verma, while Congress has again given an opportunity to its MLA Ganga Devi Verma. Once again, a face-off is expected between these two due to the atmosphere against the incumbent MLA, which could result in a BJP victory.
Chaksu Assembly Seat: There is significant activity here. The Chaksu seat, reserved for the Scheduled Caste, is currently under Congress control. Congress has once again fielded MLA Ved Prakash Solanki, while BJP has once again fielded Ram Avatar Bairwa. A tough competition is expected here, and Congress needs to struggle to retain its position.
Amer Assembly Seat: This seat is considered crucial in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP secured victory here. BJP’s Satish Poonia defeated Congress candidate Prashant Sharma. Currently, Satish Poonia is the MLA from Amer and the former state president of BJP, serving as the opposition leader. BJP has once again given an opportunity to Satish Poonia, while Congress has again given a ticket to Prashant Sharma. This time, there is a tough competition between BJP and Congress for the Amer seat. Congress has the potential to win, but victory won’t come easily.
Shiv Assembly Seat: In addition to this, the Shiv Assembly seat the hot seat of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly seats is gaining attention. The Shiv Assembly constituency is located near the India-Pakistan border in the Barmer district of western Rajasthan. This time, an interesting competition is unfolding in Shiv. Amin Khan from Congress, Swaroop Singh Khara from BJP, Dr. Jalam Singh Rawalot, former MLA who switched to RLP, Ravindra Singh Bhati, the rebellious youth leader from BJP, and Congress rebel Fateh Khan are in the field. There are five major candidates for the first time on the Shiv seat, making it the focus of attention for the entire Rajasthan.
The highest number of Muslim and Rajput voters are here, and Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, and Jat voters also have a significant influence. While talking about the 2018 Assembly elections, Congress senior leader Amin Khan won this seat with around 23,554 votes, while Khuman Singh Sodha from BJP secured the second position with 60,784 votes. In the same election, the National Democratic Party fielded Dalit leader Udaram Meghwal, who, with 50,944 votes, secured the third position, disrupting the equations of both major parties.
No party has won consecutively on this seat since 1980. Congress has consistently fielded Amin Khan from this seat since 1980. He contested elections four times and won five times, being the MLA. The party has given a ticket to Amin Khan ten times. He was also a Cabinet Minister in the Gehlot government of 2008. Although Congress MLA Amin Khan demanded a ticket for his son, the party gave the ticket to Amin Khan himself.
Meanwhile, from BJP, former MLA Dr Jalam Singh Rawalot, Khangar Singh, and youth leader Ravindra Singh Bhati also demanded the ticket, but the party trusted BJP district president Swaroop Singh. With the presence of five prominent leaders in this seat, an interesting contest is expected here. Independent candidate Fateh Khan and independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati, both independent candidates, have disrupted the sleep of party candidates. According to the current equation, tough competition is expected between independent candidates Fateh Khan and Ravindra Singh Bhati. There is a strong struggle for Congress and BJP party candidates.
In 2018, by disrupting the equations of BJP and Congress parties, Udaram, who brought 50,944 votes with the ticket of the RLP, is supporting independent candidate Fateh Khan this time. Jats and SC/ST votes are crucial in Shiv this time.
The controversial statement calling Sindhi Muslims traitors has made the Muslim community angry with Amin and can cause him harm. After labelling Fateh Khan as dishonest, some Muslims are upset with Amin Khan. Amin Khan has made several controversial statements regarding the Muslim religious leader. Amin Khan also made a statement asking the public to vote for the BJP if not Congress.
He said if not Congress, then vote for BJP but vote for an independent candidate. Such statements also harm the Congress party.
Until the elections in Shiv approach, the equations can change.
However, a tough competition is being considered between independent candidates Fateh Khan and Ravindra Singh Bhati. There is a possibility of third or fourth place for BJP and Congress party candidates.
