BJP alleges rampant corruption, bribery in AAP govt

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for alleged corruption and misgovernance during its tenure in Delhi. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva accused the Kejriwal government of committing a massive fraud, depriving Delhi’s vulnerable citizens of their rightful assistance.
Sachdeva highlighted irregularities in the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), a department tasked with providing shelter homes for the poor and homeless. He described the program as a vital humanitarian service but alleged that a major scam was being carried out through collusion between government officials and AAP legislators.
According to DUSIB regulations, each shelter home is allocated funds to pay salaries for 5-6 caretaking staff, depending on the shelter’s capacity. These payments are made to contractor NGOs. However, an investigation by the BJP revealed widespread fraud. The probe found that while salaries for 5-6 caretakers are being disbursed, only 2-3 caretakers are actually present, leaving 3-4 ghost employees on the payroll at each shelter. Sachdeva alleged that nothing in the Kejriwal government operates without brokerage, bribery, or commission.
The BJP’s legal team identified eight major NGOs contracted to manage shelter homes in Delhi. It was discovered that in most shelters, only a fraction of the staff is employed while payments are made for the full staff complement. Moreover, the same staff members were found registered at multiple shelter homes with identical Aadhaar numbers and bank account details. For example, shelters at Delhi Gate, Lahori Gate, Turkman Gate, and Mangolpuri were shown to have employees drawing salaries for multiple locations using a single Aadhaar card.
The alleged scam is estimated to be worth Rs. 250 crore. The BJP has demanded an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta. They have called for a probe into the roles of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, involved ministers, MLAs, DUSIB officials, and all other parties implicated in the scam.
Sachdeva also pointed out that the NGOs managing these shelters were selected by the Delhi government and accused the administration of corruption in every department. He referred to a similar issue exposed recently involving fake caste certificates. He provided the example of Vijay Kumar, an employee of Jyoti Samaj Seva Sansthan, who is listed as working at five different locations simultaneously under the same Aadhaar card. Five salaries were being deposited into a single account, which were allegedly siphoned off as commissions for AAP leaders.
