In a sign of potential tensions within BJP in Haryana, former Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh will be holding a rally in Jind on October 2nd without BJP flags or banners. Instructions have been given to party workers to come to the rally bearing only the national flag instead of the flag of any political party.
While distancing himself from the party, the former Union Minister is working hard along with MP son Brijendra Singh and other family members to make the rally a success. The rally is termed as Meri Awaaz Suno (Listen to My Voice) and the official organiser is “Birender Singh ke Sathi (Friends of Birender Singh)”.
In Haryana, about 18% to 22% of Jat votes are believed to be of BJP. They want to break the vote bank of Congress, INLD and JJP in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. The party wants this vote percentage should be extended beyond 30% in the Lok Sabha elections so that the party can get a strong base in the assembly elections too. Chaudhary Birendra Singh also knows this very well, hence through the rally Birendra Singh wants to tell that he can conquer Jatland.
The second biggest reason for BJP leader Chaudhary Birendra Singh distancing himself from the party line is that right now he does not have a direct say in the decisions made by top leadership sitting in Delhi. Presently, he is conveying his message only through Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar or through some party leaders in Haryana. Through the rally, he wants to show his importance to the top leadership of the party, so that he can strengthen his presence in the central leadership of BJP in Delhi.
Chaudhary Birendra Singh has been MLA from Uchana Assembly seat 5 times and became the first MLA from here in 1977, and this is also his ancestral seat. Currently, this seat is in the account of JJP. Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala is the MLA from here. And, there is a coalition government of BJP-JJP presently. There is a constant exchange of words between him and the Deputy CM regarding Uchana, and Birendra along with his son is trying really hard to regain the seat.
His son MP Brijendra Singh won the Lok Sabha elections from Hisar. In the 2014 assembly elections, BJP won from Uchana seat for the first time, thanks to Birendra Singh’s wife Premlata. Premlata had defeated the then MP Dushyant Chautala, who was the INLD candidate.
