Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, started a major tour of India at the IORA Retreat in Kaziranga, Assam. On his arrival, Assam’s Minister of Environment and Forest Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora, and other officials greeted the king warmly.

On Friday, King Wangchuck had high-level talks with Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, demonstrating mutual respect and a shared vision and highlighting the neighboring nations’ deep ties. Chief Minister Sarma expressed gratitude for the King’s guidance and expressed eagerness to strengthen the doctrine of ‘Neighbourhood First,’ indicating a commitment to improving relations.

King Wangchuck began his visit with a pilgrimage to Guwahati’s revered Kamakhya Temple, where he paid his respects and received a replica of the temple as a token of honor.

This visit serves as a testament to the longstanding historical and cultural connections between Bhutan and India. As part of his itinerary, the Bhutanese King is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials, fostering enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the visit’s significance in advancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, reflecting the robust partnership built on trust and understanding.

In April, King Wangchuck had previously visited India, meeting President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, further solidifying the close ties between the nations.
