Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra reiterated here that the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to promote sports and sportspersons by creating a conducive sports environment in the state.
Inaugurating the 35th Punjab Roller Skating Championship at United Rollers Sports Club at Dhelpur in Mohali on Thursday evening, He said that Punjab born 32 sportspersons have proved their worth in recently held Asian Games by bagging 20 medals in individual and team events. He said that the soil of Punjab is not only fertile for agriculture but also for boosting the sports and other activities. He said that the second edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan has attracted 4 lakh sportspersons in 36 sports events organised statewide from block level to state level. The Minister for Information and Public Relation & Horticulture, Defense Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters Departments, encouraged all the management and coaches related to roller skating sport to raise and promote the level of sports in Punjab. He said that the roller skating game has a vast field over the world and he is happy that Punjab players have also been excelling in skating in the National team too.
About 1200 skaters from 18 districts of Punjab have been participating in 07 disciplines of Roller Sports in this competition.The championship was started at Mohali United Roller Sports Club (URSC) under the supervision of Punjab Roller Skating Association, Patiala amid the performance of Martial Art Gatka, Bhangra and artistic speed skating. On this occasion, Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Manpreet Singh Chhatwal, IAS (Retd.) President and Simranjit Singh Saggu (Advocate) General Secretary Punjab Roller Skating Association (PRSA) also facilitated the skating medalists of the recently held 19th Asian Roller skating Championship in China who got medals in Quad Hockey, Inline Hockey, Inline Hockey and Inline Speed Skating.
