The Congress took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, highlighting the park’s history and development under Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi’s administrations. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posed four questions to PM Modi regarding various issues in the northeastern region during his visit to Assam.

Ramesh questioned PM Modi about the India-China border situation, the Manipur crisis, the situation in eastern Nagaland, and the resurgence of separatist groups in Assam. He criticized PM Modi for allegedly giving a clean chit to China during the India-China border standoff in 2020, accusing him of failing to take action against Chinese aggression.

Regarding the Manipur crisis, Ramesh criticized PM Modi for not visiting Manipur or engaging with the Chief Minister and political parties of the state to address the ethnic strife. He also highlighted the declaration of a “public emergency” by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) in eastern Nagaland and criticized the government for being “missing in action” in addressing the situation.

Ramesh further questioned the government’s response to the abduction of three labourers by the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in Assam in December 2023, citing a “disturbing re-emergence of separatist groups” in the region. He criticized the government for allegedly not taking action against these groups.

The Congress leader’s remarks were made on social media platform X during PM Modi’s two-day visit to Assam, which began on Friday.
