The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to vote in all the municipalities together. They are going to approach the Calcutta High Court with this demand very soon. This was stated by BJP state president Sukanta Majumder at a press conference on Monday. According to him, the BJP has the power to fight all the municipalities in the state, including the Corporation. He also alleged that the ruling party of Kolkata-Howrah wanted to hold a separate vote for political interests.

Majumdar said, “We want all municipalities or corporations to vote together. We are also going to court for that purpose. I will sue the public interest. There has been a lawsuit today. We will go too. Because, the decision to get the Howrah and Calcutta corporations to vote earlier is politically motivated. We will demand from the State Election Commission that if the votes cannot be cast together, then the counting must be done together. When the BJP wants to vote together, it means that the BJP has that power and we can fight together in all the municipalities and municipalities.”

Incidentally, the state government has already sent proposals to the State Election Commission seeking votes in Kolkata and Howrah on December 19. Meanwhile, the BJP said, more than a hundred municipalities are left to vote. The administration is providing services. Why would that be. Legislative Assembly, by-elections have been held. This time there should be a pre-vote. The state BJP also demanded that if necessary, voting should be done with the central forces.

With this demand in mind, the BJP is approaching the court. It remains to be seen what direction the court will take next. However, according to BJP sources, if the verdict of the High Court is not satisfactory, they may also approach the Supreme Court.

CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “We have been making this demand from the very beginning. Everyone wants the votes to be held at close quarters. The same has happened in the left period. One will be in February; another will be in March! There is no argument for this. Were together. Who knows why they are being separated? Now all the municipalities are illegal. There is no such thing as a legal municipality in West Bengal. One year, two years, three years all illegal municipalities. Everyone needs to vote. If so, what is the point of voting in stages?”

According to Chakraborty, if there was any problem, the old corporations would be together. “The municipalities will be together. Not so. Whether everything will be within the corporation, or whether Salt Lake will be left out. A separate voting table,” Sujan claims.

In this context, Trinamool Congress MP Sukhendushekhar Roy said, “The doors of the court are always open for all. The BJP has no confidence in the people. So, they repeatedly go to court. Our party believes in the court of the people. Now all the municipalities are talking about voting together. But why so many points were voted in the assembly? These are crazy delusions that have lost public support.”
