Factors contributing to the rise of depression in India, including high levels of stress due to peer pressure among children, social isolation (Covid-19), and a lack of access to mental health care leading to a lack of appetite, insomnia, obesity, no motivation, and lethargy. However, there are also many things that can be done to combat this epidemic, including incorporating specific foods into your diet.
1. Ashwagandha, an herb used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. It is also effective in lowering cortisol levels.
2. Moringa is known for its numerous health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and has been shown to help reduce symptoms of depression.
3. Brahmi, also known as Bacopa, is known for its cognition enhancing properties and has been shown to help reduce symptoms of depression.
4. Saffron is a spice that is commonly used in Indian cuisine and is known for its mood-enhancing properties. It has been shown to help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety
5. Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is an herb used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-anxiety properties.
6. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that have numerous health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects that reduce the symptoms of depression.
7. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, a spice commonly used in Indian cooking. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can help reduce symptoms of depression.
