NEW DELHI: The Internatinal Cricket Council (ICC) has once again reminded the BCCI that the deadline of December 31 is near and that it has not yet been informed by the BCCI about the Indian government’s tax exemption. This incident raises myriad questions the answers of which will come in the clear air only after the BCCI’s Annual General Body Meeting (AGM). Will India be stripped of hosting the T20 World Cup? Will BCCI get its annual share deducted from ICC this time? Will the ICC take over the hosting of the T20 World Cup and organise it in the UAE?

Nonetheless, the saga of tax exemption will be amongst the main points of the agenda in the General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian cricket board that takes place today.

The ICC has also said that the previous deadline of May was extended at the request of the BCCI itself, but it has not received any reply so far. According to the sources of the Daily Guardian, the Government of India has kept the matter in abeyance for the time being because it will lead to many complexities. Sports federations of the rest of the country and sports organisations can also demand similar exemptions in this regard. The situation is that the general secretary of the BCCI is the son of a Home Minister and so far the government has not given a clear answer to BCCI but the ICC has tightened its stand in this matter. He has been asked to give an undertaking to tightened its stand in this matter. He has been asked to give an undertaking to the BCCI in which BCCI will compensate the government in the event of not getting a 100% tax exemption. This rebate amount will be deducted from the share it gets from the ICC.

The ICC is bitterly angry with the BCCI for not getting tax exemption in the T20 World Cup 2016. It is alleged that it has not yet paid the tax deducted. Although, the ICC had then told BCCI not to host any future World Cup in the event as the problem is not yet resolved, the truth is that the work of the global body of cricket cannot go on without the BCCI. It receives large revenue from BCCI itself.

The ICC has not only talked about deducting the amount of BCCI`s share but also threatened to take the T20 World Cup to UAE. The matter has been specifically included in the BCCI AGM to be held in Ahmedabad on Thursday. If there is no response from the government in the next days, will the ICC come on the backfoot? Meanwhile, all the eyes are on the stand that BCCI will take in this meeting.
