A day after the Sri Lanka Cricket Board expressed that it was still hopeful of hosting India in August, the Board For Cricket Control In India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian team won’t be traveling to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their tours due to the coronavirus pandemic.

India was scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Sri Lanka on the tour that was to commence from 24 June. India also had a scheduled three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in August.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe owing to the current threat of Covid-19.

Team India was originally scheduled to travel to the island nation from 24th June 2020 for three ODIs and as many T20Is and to Zimbabwe for a series comprising three ODIs starting 22nd August 2020.”

Team India is also scheduled to play three T20Is against South Africa at the end of August but looking at this decision, it is highly unlikely that BCCI will go ahead with the South Africa safari either.
