In a shocking incident, Bangladeshi Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar was brutally murdered in a New Town flat on May 13. The crime scene revealed hundreds of plastic bags, weighing 600 grams, along with toilet tissue rolls, wet and dry tissues, gloves, and a boarding pass in the name of Celesty Rahman. Police also recovered a comb with strands of hair, providing crucial evidence in the investigation.

Jihad Hawladar, 24, who has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bengal, confessed to committing the crime within 15 minutes of Azim’s arrival at the building. According to the police, Jihad used chloroform to render Azim unconscious before smothering him with a pillow. Subsequently, he dismembered the body using a butcher’s knife and blades. “The killers meticulously planned the body’s disposal, purchasing plastic bags, trolley bags, a machete, and bleaching powder,” a CID officer disclosed.

The special investigation team from Baranagar police station, formed after alerts about Azim’s disappearance, initially searched the New Town flat on Monday. They discovered Celesty’s boarding pass, raising suspicions. As the Bangladesh government confirmed Azim’s murder, police returned to the flat for an extensive search. Blood stains were found near footwear and faint stains in the drawing room. By 11:15 AM on Wednesday, forensic investigators confirmed the murder occurred at that location.

A four-member team from India’s police and security wings traveled to Bangladesh, interrogating three arrested individuals at the Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road in Dhaka. The suspects were questioned in the office of Mohammad Shahidur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of the DB’s Wari division. “We are exchanging information with Bangladesh security agencies,” an officer at Bhawani Bhawan stated.

Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, Azim’s daughter, addressed the media in Dhaka, expressing hope for justice. “The motive for the murder can only be determined once the culprits are arrested. I seek your cooperation in ensuring justice for this cruel and brutal act,” she said on Friday. Dorin also mentioned her communication with the High Commission in Delhi and various high-ranking officials who are actively investigating the case. “Initial findings are often kept hidden for the sake of the investigation. Let them do their work,” she added.

As the investigation continues for Anwarul Azim Anar murder case, authorities are determined to uncover the full extent of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
