Hailing the local communities for their prompt and diligent efforts in aiding the flood victims and plugging the breaches in several flood-affected areas of Punjab, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday took shots at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led administration has “failed miserably” to demonstrate efficiencies and keenness in controlling floods and then launching successful rescue operations.
“After getting the photoshoot done for a couple of days in flood-affected areas, the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has left for Bengaluru leaving the Punjabis at the mercy of Almighty. Meanwhile, the headless state has been striving on its own in such a natural calamity. Punjab CM is nothing more than a puppet, who dances to the tunes of AAP Delhi leadership. Meanwhile, he has left for Bengaluru on the instructions of AAP Delhi”, Bajwa added.
The senior Congress leader, citing media reports said that the officials concerned are “unaware” of the exact number of breaches between Khanauri and Kadail villages in Sangrur, a home district of Punjab CM. “When the situation in Punjab CM’s home district is as grim, one can easily gauge the condition of the rest of the flood-affected districts of the state”, the Opposition leader said.
Qadian Legislator Bajwa said that the local communities had plugged the breach in the Sutlej River in the Jalandhar district on their own. Similarly, local communities had constantly organised Langar and helped rescue flood victims “more eagerly” than the concerned teams led by the government. Local residents of Sardulgarh in the Mansa district worked enthusiastically to build a temporary embankment after the fifth breach occurred in the Ghaggar River. “Yesterday, a video went viral on social media, in which a scuffle between local residents of Sardulgarh and Police personnel took place after the policeman allegedly abused one of the volunteers, who was working on making an embankment. Around a week back, AAP MLA from Chamkaur Sahib, Dr Charanjit Singh threatened people with false FIR when they were asking for help. Is this the kind of behaviour one can expect from the MLA and police”, Bajwa added.
