Major changes have been made in the Congress before the assembly elections as Lok Sabha MP Deepak Baij has been given the command of the state president. Till now, Congress MLA Mohan Markam was holding the responsibility on this post. There was talk of removing Mohan Markam for a long time. Now the Congress national leadership has handed over the command of the state to Bastar’s tribal leader Deepak Baij. Deepak is the Lok Sabha MP from Bastar seat.
According to a release issued by the party’s organisation general secretary KC Venugopal, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Baij as the new president of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee. Assembly elections are proposed in Chhattisgarh in November-December this year. At present there is a Congress government in the state.
This is the second major appointment of the Congress before the assembly elections. Earlier, the Congress had made TS Singh Deo, a senior leader of the party and a minister in the Chhattisgarh government, the deputy CM of the state.
