In response to claims that an aircraft intended to fly from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Barbados in order to return the Indian cricket team to India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested a report from Air India.

“Air India managed to send a flight on a charter basis in close coordination with the BCCI officials to bring the players home. Fortunately, this aircraft could be made available after accommodating the passengers due to fly from Newark to Delhi on another Air India flight,” PTI reported.

Most passengers, according to an Air India representative, were notified in advance of the flight cancelation and were either put on another flight or driven to New York. After that, the travelers were taken care of aboard a trip from New York to Delhi.

Travelers planned for the scheduled flight reportedly experienced inconvenience as a result of the move. On social media, a few travelers reported that there was no replacement flight offered.

Whereas, DGCA rules have stated that “For the operation of charter flights by scheduled operators, there shall be no disruption to their scheduled flights,”
