In the aftermath of recent snowfall in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have issued a critical avalanche warning for the next 24 hours in six districts of the region, cautioning residents to exercise utmost caution.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) announced on Wednesday that a “low danger” level avalanche is anticipated between 2800 and 3500 meters above sea level in the higher reaches of Doda district in Jammu division and Ganderbal in Kashmir within the next 24 hours.
Additionally, there is a heightened risk of avalanches with a “medium danger” level above 2400 meters in Poonch in Jammu division and in the districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara in the Kashmir valley during the same period, as stated by officials.
Residents residing in these areas are strongly urged to take precautionary measures, including avoiding travel and refraining from venturing into avalanche-prone zones until further notice. The upper reaches of these districts experienced light to moderate snowfall today, contributing to the increased risk of avalanches. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing the need for residents to stay informed and adhere to safety guidelines during these challenging weather conditions.
