Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins, showered praise on the team, stating that they are still filled with excitement following their historic 6th ODI World Cup win. This year, the Australian team spent most of their time away from home, starting in February, and enjoyed a highly successful season.
Notably, they triumphed over India in the World Test Championship final at the Oval and successfully retained the Ashes series. Despite a setback with two initial losses in the World Cup campaign after the South Africa tour, they bounced back to secure the cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Expressing his elation upon arriving at Sydney airport, Cummins said, “Every half an hour or so, you kind of remember that you just won a World Cup and get excited all over again. We’re still buzzing. It’s been a big year, and to cap it off like this is amazing.
I believe they have established their own legacy. A World Cup comes around only once every four years, and especially playing in a place like India, it’s challenging. Coupled with that, there’s the away Ashes series and a World Test Championship. We couldn’t have asked for much better. So, a pretty satisfied group.”
Cummins’ leadership received accolades from the 2011 World Cup winner, Suresh Raina. Raina noted in his ICC column, “What tilted the game in Australia’s favor was Pat Cummins’ captaincy. The way he strategically introduced Glenn Maxwell to dismiss Rohit Sharma, with a spectacular catch from Travis Head, was very clever.
Adam Zampa’s performance was commendable, and Cummins himself played a pivotal role in dismissing Virat Kohli. They outplayed India and demonstrated solidity in their planning.”
To commemorate Australia’s remarkable victory, Cummins was seen posing with the ICC trophy on a Sabarmati river boat in Ahmedabad.
