It seems like the culture of hiring ‘foreign coaches’ is not going down well with the former Indian cricketers. However, the poor performances of some of the IPL teams have also ignited a debate around the big foreign names or the overseas mentors/experts in the dugout of the teams.

In the same line of events, the former Indian pacer and now a cricket expert, Atul Wassan came up with a big statement while expressing his views about the ‘fashion of hiring foreign coaches’ in the Indian Premier League. Being a Delhite by heart, Atul Wassan seriously spoke with a shocking example of the Delhi Capitals franchise.

On being asked about Delhi Capitals’ performances in the Indian Premier League since the tournament’s inception 16 years back in the year 2008, Atul Wassan’s reply was enough to convey that he is not ‘okay’ with the coaching setup of Delhi Capitals, which has a presence of some foreign coaches, especially the head coach Ricky Ponting.

“It is an injustice with Delhi, what Ricky Ponting is doing in the dugout, is he there merely to sit? they are giving a lot of money to the foreign coaches, so what use they are being here in IPL?” said Atul Wassan during a live show of India News, Cricit Predicta powered by 1XBAT.

“Apart from that, the overseas experts they bring into their setup, what is their role, nobody is talking about this. By doing this, are you trying to look stronger in the dugout in comparison to your team on the ground? In the 16-year-long history of IPL, DC have reached the final only once in 2020” he added later.

Interestingly Atul Wassan’s statement on the ‘foreign coach’ setup was acknowledged and echoed by former Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s coach Rajkumar Sharma. “I agree with Atul, the IPL teams like to hire foreign coaches, but what are they getting out of all this.”
