Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha , criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government on Monday for introducing a bill that would replace the Center’s ordinance on service control in Delhi and termed it “undemocratic.”
The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, which is anticipated to be introduced in Parliament this week, is allegedly a BJP plot to topple the Arvind Kejriwal-led administration in Delhi, according to the AAP leader. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has been looking for opposition to the Ordinance. Even though the government has expressed confidence in passing the bill, members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance have previously stated they will oppose it in Parliament.
The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aims to replace a May ordinance introduced by the Centre that excluded “services” from the legislative authority of the Delhi legislative assembly. Days after the Supreme Court’s ruling granting the Delhi government transfer and posting authority, the ordinance was introduced.
The AAP has issued a three-line whip to all its MPs in Rajya Sabha to be present in the House till August 4 in anticipation of the bill.
The government, meanwhile said that it will not be taking up the bill today. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters before Parliament convened for the day today, “We will inform you when it (Delhi Ordinance Bill) will be introduced. It is not mentioned in the List of Businesses today.”
