A member of the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested on Monday by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for alleged involvement in anti-national activities.

Meanwhile, an arrest has been made in connection with an FIR by Nashik ATS. The person who has been arrested by police has been identified as Maulana Irfan Daulat Nadvi. So far in this regard, seven people have been arrested.

Earlier in September, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notification declaring, “the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect”.

Moreover, a ban on the radical outfit and its affiliates was imposed for five years for having “terror links” in September.

The ban has been also imposed on the Rehab India Foundation, Campus Front of India, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organization, National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation, and Rehab Foundation.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) said PFI has been raising and collecting substantial funds from abroad in a well-organized and structured manner.”

As the inputs received by Central agencies said, “PFI was raising funds abroad and their transfer to India through clandestine and illegal channels.”

However, after merging three Muslim organizations in 2006 in Kerala PFI was launched.
