According to police, an officer of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) was killed by unidentified Naxals on Monday in an explosion triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the state’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district.
Assistant Platoon Commander Vijay Yadav has been identified as the deceased officer (58). According to a police officer, the incident occurred this morning between Temenar and Etepal.
The officer belonged to the 19th battalion of the CAF’s D-Company and was a native of Uttar Pradesh, according to the police.
According to the police, a team of security personnel left Mirtur police station on Monday morning for an area domination exercise, and when they arrived at a forest patch between Temenar and Etepal, one of the officers accidentally stepped over an IED planted by the Naxals, resulting in an explosion.

An earlier encounter occurred on Sunday in the forest area of Chote Burgum in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district between a joint party of Indo-Tibetan Border Police and District Reserve Guard and Naxals, according to officials.
According to officials, the Naxals fled the area by taking advantage of the forest cover.
Security forces recovered two IEDs during a search operation in the area which was later defused on the spot.
