After 10 years of independence, Fatehpur became a Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The first election on this seat took place in 1957, and it has always been a VVIP seat.
Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s son, Harikishan Shastri, served as a two-term MP from here. Vishwanath Pratap Singh won from this seat and became the Prime Minister of the country.

Currently, BJP’s prominent leader from this constituency is Member of Parliament, Niranjan Jyoti. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti began her political career with the BJP in 2012 as a candidate for the Hamirpur Assembly. She won in that election and continued her success in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, defeating the BSP candidate.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP fielded Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti again, and she secured another impressive victory. For the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP has announced Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti as its candidate from the Fatehpur constituency for the third consecutive time.
