A Class 11 student allegedly fatally stabbed his teacher with a knife inside a classroom in Assam’s Sivsagar district on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident occurred inside a classroom of a coaching center, reportedly after the teacher reprimanded the accused for his poor academic performance. The student allegedly stabbed the teacher after the other professors had left, the police added.
“We reached the coaching centre on receiving information of a stabbing incident. According to preliminary information, a student stabbed his teacher. There is a lot of blood in the classroom. The knife was also found there,” the police told news agency PTI.
Initially, the teacher was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was later declared dead.
One of the accused’s classmates reported that the teacher had scolded the student over an issue earlier in the day, prompting him to leave the center. When the student returned, the teacher confronted him again, according to PTI. It was during this second encounter that the student attacked the teacher with a knife.
The accused, a minor, has been taken to the local police station in Sivsagar.
“We have picked up the student. We don’t know yet what led to the incident. We are in the process of collecting the CCTV camera footage,” the police said.
Further investigation is underway.
Bihar teacher stabbed to death by stalker
In a separate incident in May, a 40-year-old school teacher was allegedly stabbed to death by a stalker while on her way to school in Bihar’s Katihar district. The accused then burned her body to conceal the evidence. The incident occurred near the victim’s house in Pakariya Lakshmipur, under the jurisdiction of Pranpur police limits.
According to locals, shortly after the woman teacher, who worked at Pakarhiya Primary School, left for school, a man attacked her with a knife and slit her throat. She was later taken to the Pranpur Primary Health Centre (PHC), where the doctor declared her dead.
