The home of Congress candidate Yadvendra Singh in Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh district was visited by a four-person Assam Police team on Thursday for questioning in relation to a fraud case, a police officer said. Singh will run in the upcoming Assembly elections from the Tikamgarh district next month. The police claimed that a court order was the basis for the action being taken against the Congress candidate.
Tikamgarh Kotwali police station in-charge, Anand Raj, said, “We had received a letter from a court in Assam via mail asking us to cooperate in an ongoing investigation (against the Congress candidate). Today, a four-member team of Assam Police arrived in the morning for questioning him in connection with a fraud case. The investigating team will share further details on this matter.”
While an Assam Police team questioned the Congress leader and his family in relation to the fraud case, Kotwali Police officers surrounded the leader’s home. According to Assam Police officer Uttam Dhule, who provided information about the case, it was recently reported and the investigation is still ongoing.
“A case was registered by the CID in Assam in connection with this matter and we were here to question the Congress leader after securing a warrant from the court. The investigation in the case is ongoing. The case was registered under IPC sections 120B, 225, 356, 257, 259, 260, 406, 417, 419, 420, 463, 465, 466, 468, 471, 472, 474 and 506. The case is not very old, it was registered only recently,” Dhule said.
