Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the state Director General of Police (DGP) to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly “provoking the crowd” during the Congress leader’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The yatra faced clashes with Assam police as Congress workers were stopped from entering Guwahati city.

In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma criticized the “Naxalite tactics,” stating that such behavior is alien to Assam’s culture. He directed the DGP to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd, citing the posted footage as evidence.

Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was not allowed to interact with students in the state, alleging efforts to enslave students of the North East and India. He accused the Home Minister of instructing the Assam Chief Minister to prevent him from meeting students. The Congress leader emphasized the importance of allowing students to listen to whomever they choose and criticized restrictions on language and history.

The political tension escalated as the Assam Congress accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of using various means to disrupt the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, including deploying police and administration to barricade the yatra. The clash between Congress workers and Assam police resulted in a significant traffic jam in Guwahati.
