An EasyJet flight from Turkey to London was forced to make an emergency landing in Italy after a 16-year-old girl caused chaos onboard, attempting to open an emergency door mid-air and leaving passengers shaken. The incident began when the teenager, traveling with her mother and grandmother, reportedly became agitated by a 10-year-old girl coughing nearby. Tensions escalated when the teenager confronted the younger girl in the restroom, leading to an altercation that involved the flight crew.
Witnesses described the situation as terrifying, with the teenager shouting abuse, breaking an emergency door handle, and colliding with a passenger, which forced open the cockpit door. She also reportedly threw shoes at passengers and threatened a crew member. Pilots diverted the flight to Bari, Italy, where the teenager was taken into custody. Passengers were provided overnight accommodations but described the hotel as unsanitary and poorly maintained.
EasyJet apologized for the disruption, emphasizing that passenger safety was never compromised and offered reimbursement for expenses. However, many passengers expressed dissatisfaction, criticizing the airline’s handling of the ordeal and lack of compensation.
