AIMIM leader and incumbent MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, has expressed his belief that there will come a time when a woman wearing a hijab will lead the country, although he may not be alive to witness it himself but “it will happen”. He also asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite turning 75, is unlikely to step down, emphasizing the importance of defeating him politically. Owaisi, who represents Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha, will face a crucial test on May 13 when voters in his constituency participate in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
“Inshallah, it will be in the form of a woman wearing a hijab and heading this great nation. The time will come. Maybe I will not be alive to see that day, but it will happen inshallah,” he said when asked about India’s first Muslim prime minister during an interview with Hindustan Times.
Owaisi criticized PM Modi’s recent remarks regarding the Muslim community, stating that he was not surprised by them at all, as they align with the Prime Minister’s inherent beliefs. “That’s his original language. That’s his originality—which is that they hate Muslims. That is the real Hindutva ideology. The Prime Minister has been consistently saying this from 2002, which made him the prime minister of this great nation twice, unfortunately,” the Hyderabad MP said.
Owaisi further discussed his decision not to form alliances with other opposition parties. He mentioned that his candidate had proposed joining forces with the bloc, but their offer was never accepted.
