As PM dials 7 CMs to discuss Covid, India sees 38.9k cases in 24 hours

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with the chief ministers of Bihar, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the respective states. India, meanwhile, witnessed a record 38,902 fresh Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 10,77,618 with 3,73,379 active cases. About 543 deaths were also recorded, taking the Covid-19 death count to 26,864 deaths.

Maharashtra reported 9,518 cases and 258 deaths in the last twenty-four hours, taking total tally to 3,10,455 and death count to 11,854. As many as 3,906 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of those discharged to 1,69,569. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 1,046 new coronavirus cases and 64 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,01,224 and 5,711 deaths. Number of active cases stands at 23,828 in the financial capital of the country.

Tamil Nadu reported a new single day high of 4,979 fresh cases as the overall tally crossed 1.70 lakh while 78 fatalities took the death count tally to 2,481. As many as 52,993 COVID samples were tested which is highest so far in a day, and the cumulative tests so far touched 19,32,492. Greater Chennai Corporation city civic body became the first in the country to have conducted five lakh RT-PCR tests.

Delhi recorded 1,211 fresh coronavirus cases, the lowest in over a month, and 31 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital is now 1,22,793. The death toll due to the disease is 3,628. As many as 1,03,134 patients have recovered so far, while there are 16,031 active cases currently. The total number of positive patients under home isolation stands at 8,819. The recovery rate has increased to more than 83 per cent.

Karnataka reported 4120 new Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, of which 2156 cases are from Bengaluru. A total number of cases rose to 63,772 including 39,370 active cases. Death toll rises to 1331 after 91 deaths were reported in the last twenty-four hours in the state. Meanwhile, neighbouring state Kerala reported as many as 821 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours. The state has currently 7,063 active cases with 5,373 patients have recovered to date in the state.

Haryana recorded 750 new coronavirus cases in the state, which took the total tally of cases to 25,547. The state has currently 5,885 active cases. The death toll in the state rose to 344 with 17 more deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Punjab recorded 310 new Covid-19 positive cases in last twentyfour hours, taking the total of cases to 10,100. Number of active cases stand at 3,311 in the state. Death toll rises to 254 after 8 deaths were reported in a single day.

The coronavirus case tally in Uttar Pradesh rose to 49,247 with the highest single-day jump of 2,211 fresh cases, while the death toll reached 1,146 after 38 fatalities were reported in the state. There are 18,256 active cases in the state, while a total of 29,845 patients have been discharged from hospitals so far after recovering from the disease.

Madhya Pradesh too recorded its highest single-day spike of 837 new Covid-19 cases, which took the count to 22,600. The state’s death toll due to coronavirus reached 721 with 15 more patients succumbing to the infection.

PM Modi also spoke about flood situation in the country. Both Assam and Bihar are facing floods.
