In a sudden attack, one army jawan was injured after terrorists opened fire from a distance near the Sunjawan military camp, the largest army base in Jammu, on Monday morning. According to defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, the attack occurred between 10:00 and 10:30 am.
In response, the army base has been locked down, and a search operation is underway. Additional details are awaited.
This incident comes after a previous attack in February 2018, when Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists assaulted the Sunjawan military camp, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists. Approximately 20 people, including soldiers and civilians, were injured in that attack.
The firing near the Sunjawan military camp follows recent security operations in Jammu and Kashmir. A few days ago, security forces killed three terrorists in two separate encounters in the Kupwara district. Two terrorists were eliminated in Machhal, while another was killed in the Tangdhar sector.
Additionally, another encounter erupted in Jammu’s Rajouri district as security forces launched a search operation to track down terrorists hiding in the Lathi area. The operation began around 9:30 pm in the general area of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal.
