Teen Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi is placed second in the preliminary phase of the Julius Baer Generation Cup online rapid chess tournament while his compatriot R Praggnanandhaa is in joint fourth place after 12 rounds.
Erigaisi, who came into the day on top of the leaderboard, began on a strong note registering a win over Ukraine’s Vasyl Ivanchuk. But he lost the next one against Poland’s Jan-Krzystof Duda in the reverse game and drew against Boris Gelfand of Israel in his third outing of the day. However, he ended the day with a win over USA’s Christopher Yoo to steady his ship and stay just a point adrift of the top spot with 24 points.
Praggnanandhaa, on other hand did not have the best of the days and could manage only four draws against compatriot B Adhiban, Vietnam’s Quang Liem Le, Czech Republic’s David Navara and Hans Nieman of USA to accumulate a total of 19 points after 12 rounds be in joint fourth position with Germany Vincent Keymer and
Poland’s Duda.
