For the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians have lost their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah due to injury. But the good news for Mumbai Indians is England’s star fast bowler Jofra Archer has certainly confirmed his comeback for the whole season. On Wednesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and officials of IPL confirmed that Archer will join his IPL franchise for the upcoming season. “He should be able to play a full part in the IPL and as always his franchise and the ECB will manage his workload,” an ECB source said. Additionally, an IPL official said, “Jofra is very much available, have you not seen him in action in the Dhaka ODI?”
It is still a debatable question, how a national board will manage a player’s schedule within franchise circles, but according to sources, foreign boards insist on their players, especially the fast bowlers due to undesirable injuries. Jofra Archer was part of Wednesday’s ODI match against Bangladesh where he finished with 2 wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. Currently, England is going to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh, which will run till March 14 and after that Archer could travel to India. He is expected to join Mumbai Indians on April 2 in their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Archer has missed out of cricket from the half of 2021 to the full year of 2022. After that, he played his major game for MI Cape Town, which is a fully owned subsidiary of the Mumbai Indians franchise, in the SA20, in January. In total, he played five games in the tournament and also played for England in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
