Apple is stepping up its efforts to introduce AI capabilities in its upcoming iPhone 16 lineup. The tech giant is collaborating with OpenAI to strategize its AI implementation plan. Despite joining the AI landscape relatively late, Apple aims to unveil its new AI features in June, following the trend that has been ongoing since OpenAI’s ChatGPT introduction in 2022.

The new iPhone is expected to showcase AI features deeply integrated into its operating system, prioritizing privacy and security. These features include automatic text generation, article summarization in Safari, and notification recaps, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Apple’s AI model, internally known as Ajax, will power these features. However, there are no immediate plans to introduce an in-house ChatGPT-style chatbot. Instead, Apple is exploring partnerships with potential collaborators like Google and OpenAI.

Initially, discussions focused on Google’s Gemini, but recent talks with OpenAI have also gained momentum. Despite these advancements, there is uncertainty regarding user adoption of these new features. Apple is cautious, considering its history of introducing features that fail to gain widespread use among customers. Despite the current AI surge, Apple is wary that these new capabilities may face a similar fate.
