Veteran actor Anupam Kher opened up about a deeply personal aspect of his life, revealing that he often feels the void of not having a biological child. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Anupam clarified that his feelings have nothing to do with his bond with his stepson Sikander Kher.

Anupam shared that the thought of not having his own child only became significant in recent years. “I didn’t feel it that much before, but now sometimes I do feel like it. I think in the last seven-eight years. It’s not that I am unhappy with Sikander, but I think it’s a joy to see a child growing up. It’s a joy to see bonding. This is an honest answer. I could have avoided answering this, but I don’t want to do that. It’s okay. It’s not a tragedy in my life, but sometimes I feel it would have been a nice thing,” he admitted.

The actor added, “All this while I was extremely busy working, but after I hit 50-55, I started to feel the void. Kirron became busy, and so did Sikander. I work with kids through my foundation, The Anupam Kher Foundation, and sometimes when I see my friends’ children, I do miss it, but it’s not a sense of loss.”

Anupam married Kirron Kher in 1985, and he has been a father figure to Sikander since he was four. While the couple attempted to have a child, they were unable to conceive. Before Kirron, Anupam was married to Madhumati Kapoor, and Kirron was previously married to Gautam Berry.
