After losing pacer Josh Hazlewood, Australia suffered another major setback as opener batsman David Warner suffered a fractured left elbow, due to which he has been ruled out of the two remaining Tests in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
On the first day of the Delhi Test, India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled an unplayable delivery to the batter. In order to play a defensive shot, Warner somehow managed to take the ball on his left elbow and got a hairline fracture. Due to the injury he didn’t even came to play in the second inning. On his behalf, Australia opened with middle order batter Travis Head, who played a good knock of 43 runs, and will stay as an opener in the upcoming Tests.
According to Australian cricket management, Warner will fly back to Australia for recovery before playing in the upcoming ODI series against India. But, for now, he will miss the remaining two Test matches. An official statement came from Cricket Australia following David Warner’s injury and further updates, in which they stated, “David Warner has been ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India and will return home. Warner was struck on the elbow in the second Test in Delhi and sustained a hairline fracture. After further assessment, he will require a period of rehabilitation which will preclude any further involvement in the remainder of the Test series. It is currently anticipated that he will return to India for three One-Day Internationals which follow the Test Series.”
In the ongoing four-match Test series, Warner has struggled to score runs for his team, but he hasn’t found any solutions against India’s magical spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, as he has managed to score 1, 10, and 15 in three innings. According to Australian cricket management, middle order batsman Matt Renshaw will take David Warner’s position for the Indore Test.
For now, Australia has suffered a major blow in their squad as they have lost their most important players, including Josh Hazlewood and David Warner.
At the same time, further updates have been made by Cricket Australia, as all-rounder Cameron Green is likely to join the Australian side in the third Test which is going to be held from March 1 to 5 at Indore.
After the Delhi Test, Australian skipper Pat Cummins immediately flew off to Australia due to family health issues, but he is expected to return before the Indore Test. Australia will try to draw the series in Indore because they have no choice but to lose. India won the first two matches by a huge margin in the four match series and leads the series 2-0.
