Several iconic members of the 2007 Cricket World Cup-winning Australian squad, also held in the Caribbean, unveiled the Australian team for the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Notable omissions from the squad included veteran batsman Steve Smith, rising star Jake Fraser-McGurk, bowler Jason Behrendorff, and all-rounder Matt Short.

The announcement was made through a video posted on Cricket Australia’s official handle, featuring past champions like Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, and Michael Clarke. The children of the late Andrew Symonds, a key player from the 2007 squad, also participated.

Despite not playing a T20 international since the last T20 World Cup in 2022, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar earned a recall, alongside Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green, despite some mixed performances in the Indian Premier League. Mitchell Marsh was named captain of the squad.

Selection chair George Bailey expressed confidence in the team’s balance and experience, believing they are well-equipped for the challenges of the tournament. The squad of 15 players left out several deserving candidates, with Bailey noting that adjustments could be made within ICC regulations if needed. Australia will kick off their campaign against Oman on June 5 in Barbados, followed by fixtures against England, Namibia, and Scotland.
