Anis Khan, a former student of Aliah University, was found dead near his house in Howrah’s Amta past Friday midnight. The 27-year-old’s parents have been alleging the youth was thrown off the rooftop by four policemen who came looking for their son.

The probe took a new turn when Anis’s family lost confidence in the district police. CID may take responsibility for the probe. They have also started a preliminary investigation. All the information reports have been sought from the Howrah District Police.

Anis’s father has also demanded an impartial CBI probe.

So far, the cause of Anis’s death remains unclear. Although days have passed since the death, the accused are still elusive. According to police sources, there are two cases against the deceased student leader Anis. In one case, the court also issued summons against the student leader. Police are investigating whether Anis had a personal feud with anyone. According to police sources, the forensic team is being called to find out the real cause of death. The government is also considering handing over the investigation to the CID from the state police.

The family claims that many questions are still unanswered. Who are the people who came to their house on Friday night? The family also questioned: those who came, one of them was in police uniform but the other three were in civic volunteer uniform? The question is, are the visitors really linked with the administration?

Citizens of Amta held demonstrations on Sunday. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Amta Police Station, Surjit Patra said, “The higher authority in charge of this probe is investigating. A case has been filed under section 302. The forensic team will come. They will come and collect the samples and take them away. This is a very sad event. That is why there is anger among the people. The police are doing their job.”
