Union Home Minister Amit Shah is planning a series of activities, including a speech at a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday to underscore the state’s importance in the political arena ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, which begins this month.

Shah is scheduled to address a public assembly at the National Inter College Ground in Shahpur, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday afternoon. Subsequent to this event, the Home Minister will hold a meeting with the Lok Sabha Core Group at the Hotel MB Greens Clarks in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The closed-door session is expected to concentrate on election strategy and the discussion of the state’s main priorities.

Shah’s trip to Uttar Pradesh highlights the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) dedication to interacting with voters and addressing their issues before the important elections. In a little over two weeks, India will start a seven-phase process to elect the 18th Lok Sabha in the forthcoming general elections starting on April 19.

The Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 19 and continue in seven stages until June 1, with the vote count scheduled for June 4. Uttar Pradesh, boasting the largest contingent of MPs at 80, will participate in all seven phases of polling.

In the initial phases on April 19 and April 26, Uttar Pradesh will see elections in eight constituencies each, including Saharanpur, Kairana, and Muzaffarnagar in the first phase, followed by Amroha, Meerut, and Baghpat in the second phase. The subsequent phases will witness an increase in the number of constituencies, with ten seats in the third phase on May 7, thirteen in the fourth phase on May 13, and fourteen seats in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh phases on May 20, May 23, and June 1, respectively.

Key constituencies such as Rae Bareli, Amethi, and Varanasi are scheduled for voting in the later phases, underscoring the pivotal role of Uttar Pradesh in shaping the election results.

Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for an intense political contest, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance all competing for supremacy. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 62 seats and its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) won one seat, whereas the SP-BSP alliance secured 16 seats.
