Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a meeting and reviewed the preparations for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir and asked party leaders to be prepared for it.

The meeting took place on a day when senior Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from his party and announced his plans to form a new party in the state.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Shah held a meeting with the leaders of the core group of the Jammu & Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party at his residence in Delhi, which lasted for three hours.

After the meeting, BJP leaders said that after the delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir, the political situation and organizational matters of the party were discussed.

However, the meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina, Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, and Devendra Singh Rana, MPs Jugal Kishore, and Shakti Raj Parihar, and other senior party leaders.

BJP in-charge and general secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Tarun Chugh and co-in-charge Ashish Sood also attended the meeting, with the Home Minister discussing the targeted killings and the security situation in the Valley along with the elections.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also held a meeting with Amit Shah on Friday. It is being said that after the completion of the voter list revision exercise, assembly elections can be held in Jammu and Kashmir.

After the abrogation of Article 370, on 5 August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh were made union territories. Article 370 used to give special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
