On Friday, Amazon India, the e-commerce company, entered into an agreement with ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), the government’s esteemed agri-research body. The partnership aims to provide guidance to farmers registered on Amazon’s ‘Kisan store’ regarding the scientific cultivation of various crops. The objective is to assist farmers in achieving maximum yield and income through optimal farming practices.
In September 2021, Amazon introduced a dedicated section called ‘Kisan store’ on its platform. This section allows farmers to conveniently access agricultural input products and have them delivered to their doorstep. Through assisted shopping at Amazon Easy stores, farmers can make use of the Kisan store to fulfill their agricultural requirements.
Amazon India has expressed its intention to expand its partnership with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra based on the positive outcomes of a pilot project conducted in Pune. The success of the pilot project has encouraged both parties to strengthen their collaboration, as stated in a company statement.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by U S Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) of ICAR, and Siddharth Tata, Product Leader of Amazon Fresh Supply Chain and Kisan, on behalf of their respective organizations. On the occasion, ICAR Director General Himanshu Pathak stated that ICAR will collaborate with Amazon for technologies, capacity building, and the transfer of new knowledge.
