All parties are mulling over their strategy after the Election Commission announced the date of the Ellenabad bye-poll which is slated to be on October 30, 2021. In view of the upcoming bye-election, the political climate of the state once again has become heated. It is pertinent to mention that this seat is lying vacant as Abhay Singh Chautala, leader of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)who was elected from the seat in assembly elections held in 2019, had resigned in favour of the farmers sitting on protest against the three contentious agricultural laws saying that the government continues to put the agrarian community in a state of disparity by implementing these laws.
Political history of Ellenabad depicts that the family and party of Devi Lal, former Deputy Prime Minister and grandfather of Abhay Singh Chautala, emerged winner for the maximum number of times. Besides. Abhay continued to win this seat back to back in the last three elections on the ticket of INLD and is the strongest claimant once again. Congress succeeded in winning the seat in 1991 for last time and after that no party could survive the election except INLD. Although, the BJP contestant Pawan Beniwal was on second position last time with 47000 votes followed by the Congress candidate Bharat Beniwal after the INLD candidate Abhay won the battle and the margin was not up to the expectations of the INLD as he could get 57000 votes.
What is of upmost importance here is that who will be the candidate of the INLD as the speculations continue to rise as the INLD supremo OP Chautala, who was released recently after completing his sentence in JBT scam, may be fielded in the battle. But, his ill health emerges continuously as an obstacle in this. So in view of this, Abhay’s son Karan Singh Chautala may be another option.
In continuation to this, a meeting of workers along with leaders of the BJP faction took place on Friday and a decision was taken to pertaining to the election. Following this, former party president Subhash Brala will bear the responsibilty of bye-poll In-charge for the same . Besides, a meeting of the state Congress party has to be held in Delhi on October 1, 2021 under the chairmanship of party In-charge Vivek Bansal over the preparations for the the forthcoming bye-election.
As all of us know that BJP is running the government with its alliance partner JJP so in view of this, it would be more interesting to know that which one will field the candidate.
Although, both continue to state that the election will be fought in collaboration and the decision regarding the selection of candidate is still pending.
In wake of the ongoing scenario what can be said is that winning or losing the seat doesn’t matter at all as the present government owns full majority.
