Airports Experience Disruption In Their Operations Worldwide Due to Microsoft Outage

Recently, a widely used technological software Microsoft 365 has experienced a huge outage, due to faulty updates given by cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike.

As a result, it caused a significant disruption in airports globally. The European airports were particularly affected.

According to flightradar24 data, prolonged flight delay and cancellations were witnessed in various continents.

For example, the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) of Netherlands witnessed significant disruption in the world, whose max. disruption index stood at 5.0.

The Dutch airport witnessed delay of 84 flights, whose average stood at 75 minutes. In addition, the significant 5% flights also got cancelled.

Besides Amsterdam, other European airports like Scotland’s Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Barcelona’s El Prat Airport (BCN) also experienced disruption. Whose disruption index respectively stood at 4.7 and 4.5.

Both the airports witnessed huge delay of flights and cancellations. Coming to America, US’s crucial airports like Denver International Airport (DEN) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) also weren’t spared of disruption. Their disruption score stood at whopping 5.0. Implying, a severe operational inconvenience.

Airports Affected In Asia Due to Microsoft Outage

Meanwhile in the eastern side of the world, Asian airports also experienced operation difficulties due to Microsoft outage.

Countries like Thailand and neighbouring Bangladesh also witnessed high disruption. For instance, Thailand’s crucial airports like Phuket International Airport (HKT) and Kahului Airport (OGG) disruption indices stood at 5.0.

While Bangladesh’s Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) disruption index stood at 4.8.

Currently, the situation continues to be a mixed bag, as some airports have displayed some improvement in their operations, while some continue to deal with prevailing IT issues.

But overall, the outage of Microsoft underscores the importance of stable systems and serves as a example, that what happens, if a crucial software faces a problem or gets compromised.
