In a proactive effort to enhance the medical education experience, AIMS (Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences) Mohali organized a specialized teaching workshop on cancers titled “Onco Moon Shot,” tailored for MBBS students. The workshop aimed to equip aspiring physicians with comprehensive knowledge and skills to address the complexities of cancer diagnosis, treatment, burden, and patient care.

Experts from both public and private health sectors, including Professor Vanita Jain, Prof Radhika, Prof Reena Das, Prof Narender (Radiotherapy), Prof Alka Khadwal from PGI, Prof N M Gupta (Retd Prof & Head Surgery, PGI), Dr Anshu Palta GMCH 32, Dr Naval Bansal (Endocrine & Breast Oncologist, Fortis), Dr Ketan Dang (Medical Oncologist, Fortis), Dr Sachin & Dr Krutika (Medical Oncologists, Max Mohali), Dr Rahat Brar (Dean), Dr Alok Goyal, Dr Guru, Dr Sahil, Dr Vandita from Tata Cancer Hospital, shared their invaluable insights gained from years of clinical experience.

These renowned experts guided students through cutting-edge advancements, diagnostic methodologies, and multidisciplinary treatment approaches. Interactive sessions, poster presentations, a book review of “The Emperor of All Maladies” and “Biography of Cancer,” case studies, Nukkad Natak, and hands-on activities fostered a transdisciplinary immersive learning environment, enabling students to grasp the nuances of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. Over 100 MBBS students and their faculty toured the Homi Bhabha Cancer TATA Hospital in Mullanpur to understand the team-based multidisciplinary approach for managing cancer patients.

Dr. Sandeep Singh Gill & Dr. Surbhi, State Program Officers for NCD Punjab, explained the burden of cancer in India using hospital and population-based registries, discussing various programs run by the center and state for cancer prevention.In the poster presentation competition, teams of MBBS students, including Pankhila Pragati, Nitin Garg, Prachi, Ishika Bansal, Ishika, and Jahnavi, won the first prize, while the second prize was awarded to Abadat and Kritika. Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director of Homi Bhabha Cancer TATA Hospital Mohali, a renowned oncologist, offered a one-month free internship to the winners at his hospital, empowering the next generation of medical practitioners in the fight against cancer.
