As the Assembly elections are due to take place in Tamil Nadu in May next year, a few decisions taken by the government clearly reveal that all is not well between the alliance partners in the state.
A decision taken by the Tamil Nadu government to prohibit installation, procession or immersion of the idols during Vinayakar Chaturthi in public places this year has turned into a flash point between the ruling partners — AIADMK and BJP.
Things took an ugly turn when BJP national secretary H. Raja tweeted, “Karnataka government has allowed the worship and installation of Vinayagar idols. A government run by potent people.” This followed Tamil Nadu BJP IT wing chief Nirmal Kumar making a sexist remark stating that the AIADMK leaders were impotent because they were hiding behind saree (referring to Jayalalithaa) for 30 years and only regained potency after meeting their leader in Delhi.
AIADMK Minister Jayakumar, making a sharp remark to the comments made by the BJP leaders, said, “H. Raja should not rub the AIADMK on the wrong side and is the person who went into hiding after making a tweet or apologising before the court is something what a potent man does.”
BJP state president Murugan said that he fails to understand why the Tamil Nadu government has prohibited installing Vinayagar idols but has given permission for the liquor shops to be kept open.
Meanwhile, the CM reiterated that the government will implement the HC order and follow the guidelines issued by the MHA to avoid gathering at religious places.
