AHMEDABAD: Cases of coronavirus are on a rise in Ahmedabad during the Diwali festivities. Due to the festival season, people were seen shopping without any pandemic fear. More than 1,100 new cases have been registered daily in the state for the last 4 days.

However, from Sunday, corona cases in the state have begun to explode. In the city of Ahmedabad, on the night of Diwali, 91 cases were reported and there is a huge stress on the state health system.

According to the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (AHNA), only 20 of the 72 private hospitals in the AMC quota have empty ICU ventilators, while a total of 231 beds are currently available. If not handled quickly, a situation like April-May may arise. A total of 134 corona patients were admitted on the day of Diwali.

Additional Superintendent of Civil Hospital Dr Rakesh Joshi said that people need to wake up. “The social distance must be maintained,” he said.

The city had seen an improvement in the conditions of Covid-19 until last month. But in most areas, where festivals are approaching, people are becoming careless and walking around without masks as well as social distances. Thousands of people are flocking to the markets including Bapunagar, Three Gates, due to which the rate of transition also increased.

The number of positive cases of corona in Ahmedabad city and district is 45,124. While 39,861 patients have recovered and returned home, the death toll has risen to 1,934. From the evening of 13 November to the evening of 14 November, 198 new cases were reported in the city and 17 in the district. At least 2 patients have died in the city. As many as 174 patients in the city and 21 in the district have been discharged.
